Speaker/Bio

Dr. Gregory D. Troxel received his PhD from MIT in 1994. He is a Division Scientist at BBN Technologies, where he has led large projects and been a senior individual contributor. His research interests include security and privacy, time synchronization, quality of service, multicast, and ad hoc and disrupted networks.

Abstract

I will present three mini talks centered on softphones and privacy. One claims that whether software running on one's phone is acting in the phone owner's interest is crucial and underappreciated. The second seeks to define malware. The third examines traditional norms of privacy and how the challenges of following them in the softphone era.
